We are constantly on Craigslist or Kijiji looking for great deals–including things that are free.

Since we want to be an eco resort, we don’t like to create waste when there are smart alternative choices. We are also presently pretty broke (did you hear we bought a forest?) and want to spend wisely. So, we like to upcycle! We usually look for older items that were made with a high standard of quality.

I really struggled with used things for a very long time.

I always thought used items were dirty, no matter what shape they were in. This probably stemmed from the OCD I was diagnosed with in kindergarten. My biggest hurdle was hand washing and I didn’t like to touch anything. Thankfully, after more than a decade of suffering, I was able to figure out that my mind was lying to me and that I could control many of the quirks that literally ruled my life- checking locks, counting, and other ridiculous rituals including thinking used items were dirty!

Oh gosh, I keep going off on tangents, I have to learn that this is not a diary!

How does Snow White fit in?

It started when we went to buy another fence–we are always looking for fencing!

Anyways, we found Sam and Jenny on Craigslist and went to their place in East Vancouver to check out some fencing. While we were there, Jenny showed Jay and I a large statue of Snow White and one of her dwarfs. She mentioned she even had all seven dwarfs for the whole set! Of course, we didn’t need Snow White or any of the dwarfs…

Sam and Jenny must be great salespeople because somehow we ended up buying Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Which leaves me scratching my head, lol. But, they are growing on me. After all, they are cute, really old and we do have the perfect property for them.

I did some research, and it seems like the statues might be from the 40’s or 50’s – I haven’t found anything definitive but I’ll keep my eyes peeled to learn more about their history.

What do we do with our new Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs statues?

Maybe we will hide the dwarfs around the property like a treasure hunt, or maybe put them in the future kids area? I don’t know…

We are also debating if we should preserve them or if we should just continue to let the elements go at them, since they are antiques. It is pretty miraculous that all 8 statues have stayed together after all these years!

What do you think? Should we try to build a treasure hunt in the forest? Or try to preserve the statues?

Also – does anyone have any wrought iron fencing for sale? We didn’t end up leaving with a fence after all…

I definitely like the treasure hunt idea.

I think that is probably the winning idea! Thank you.
