Living around a Provincial Park definitely has a lot of perks! There are so many outdoor activities to do, and the hikes and walks are free! This hike is only a few minutes from our place.
Teapot Hill is a wonderful little hike named in the 1940’s when a logger found a teapot in the area. As you walk the trails, you’ll find tea cups hidden in crevices of trees, or scattered among the trails. It’s such a cute and whimsical touch that the kiddos just love, but not everyone loves the teapots! Unfortunately, sometimes they are purposely broken, which ruins it for everyone, including the fairies and the soft pads of a dogs foot, because of the vandalism and the fact that people walk off the trail which compacts the soil and damages the beautiful fauna, the parks board occasional comes in and removes them.
We found over 70 teapots! So many were cleverly placed, some left you scratching your head at how they were placed in certain spots.
The hike, is fairly easy depending on your activity level and great for families and is dog friendly, but best to wear proper footwear and not your beach flip flops. It’s 5 km roundtrip, which takes about 2 hours. with the hardest part being closest to the beginning. The highest point is 360 meters and the gain is about 280 meters.
We shared our adventure with our workaway family whom have an amazing youtube channel called The Traveling Triplets! They have been travelling all over the world and going on the most amazing adventures. We very much enjoyed our time together especially all the kids!
There is one spot with quite a narrow walkway and a very steep hill on one side of the walkway. You might really want to have a good grip on the littles ones.
Don’t forget your water bottles! And enjoy the view. The embarrassing thing is, we never made it to the top!!! We took our pictures at the beautiful viewpoint of the lake, and went back! It honestly looked like it was the end. Jay thought it went further, but I didn’t notice the trail he was looking at! The other view might have shown us our place. We shall have to go again one day.
On your hike don’t forget to look at all the fauna! This time we didn’t get to see any Tiger Lilies, Western Columbine, Stinging Nettle or Trillium! But, we saw plenty of ferns including one of my favourites the Licorice Fern, trees and Devils Club!
Don’t forget when on a hike or in our great outdoors always be Bear Aware!
