When our friends Paula, Dave and their 2 year old son Geordie came to visit us this summer we decided to do a little sightseeing and get to know the area a little better–starting with the amusement park! It was a great reminder that, despite all the work we still have to do on the property, it’s important to take some time to smell the roses.
Cultus Lake Adventure Park is a quick 10 minute drive down the hill from our property and a great little amusement park to spend the afternoon and evening exploring. The toddlers just loved it! The only downside is they want to stop in every time we drive by. And we drive by a lot.
Cultus Lake Adventure Park is very well run, the staff were all extremely polite and very service-oriented (Brooke chewed her wristband off and they replaced it while they laughed), it was also very clean and well maintained. We really loved that there were barely any wait times to get on the rides, so the kids were able to go on over and over again quite quickly.
The park sells daily passes, individual ride tickets and, unfortunately, doesn’t have an all seasons pass so we won’t be able to stop in as often as we would like to. But, it’s nice that it’s free to walk through the gates, especially since Jay can’t go on the rides due to his epilepsy. When the kids are a bit older, it will be nice to send them both down to the amusement park for just a couple rides on a whim.
The Ribbit
All three toddlers (a 4 year old and two 2 year olds) loved the Ribbit. This is a ride where you sit on frogs that hop in a circle. I laughed quite hard on this one myself because there is one larger, unexpected drop.
Bucky’s Bumper Boats
Since Brooke is an inch shy of 3 feet (the height requirement for many of the rides), we knew she would be envious of the rides Connor could get on–she loves to do everything he does. Thankfully, the waiting area near Bucky’s Bumper Boats had a water gun you could shoot at the bumper boat riders. This was hugely popular for Brooke! While she was too short to get on the bumper boats, she was very happy soaking everybody who came within range. Personally, I loved the bumper boats even though I was a bit nervous that my driving skills were sub par and I wouldn’t be able to make it back to the dock. But all was okay! I also really enjoyed getting a little bit wet on the hot summer day.
Runaway Mine Train
I think Connor’s favourite ride was a toss up between the bumper boats and Runaway Mine Train which is the roller coaster ride at the park.
The Wagon Wheel
The Wagon Wheel (a ferris wheel) was way too slow for the toddlers and did not hold their attention, so they just kept trying to get out which was a bit stressful. I just hoped the ride would end quickly so we could get off. For kids without ants in their pants it would have been enjoyable as the views were breathtaking over the lake and looking onto the mountains.
Round-up 360
Dave and I went on Round-up 360 which was quite the ride. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience until the ride reversed and started to go the other way…then I just prayed it would end. Jay videoed the ride and you can basically see my face go green. Not sure if the motion was just too much for me at the ripe old age of 34, but I just prayed that I would not throw up on everyone. I ended up having a migraine until the next day. I’m sure my younger self would have absolutely loved it but it was just way way too much spinning for me now. So definitely ride Round-up 360 at your own risk if you tend to get queasy. I’m sure I will try it again another day to see if I was just “off.”
After being spun around I was well passed cooked. We decided to put mini golf on our list for next summer.
Before heading home, we stopped by the nearby beach for a dinner picnic. It was the perfect end our to Cultus Lake Adventure Park adventure! I really enjoyed our experience and had a blast. More importantly, I think the kids gained new memories to cherish through the years.
