“Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates
We bought our South facing acreage with the intention to forage and create an abundance of food both for us, our family, and all of our friends including the animals that live amongst us.
There was already an abundance of food on our property, one just had to observe and study the plants and fauna in our area to know which was an edible or a medicinal.
We were also blessed with a very old Orchard that had been thoughtfully planted close to a hundred years ago which included fruits & nuts.
We also have many berries (Including our loved nemesis the Himalayan Blackberries.)
We named our favourite spot on Earth the Forest Guild because we very much love the idea of a permanent Food Forest which includes perennial plantings because once planted they can thrive for many years to come. Companion planting….
Both Jay and I are avid gardeners and have spent many years studying plants, our date nights were almost always gardening classes. We both became Organic Master Gardeners, then I went on to study Horticulture, both landscape and production, I couldn’t get enough so I went back to add in arboriculture because I wanted to know how to really operate a chainsaw safely. Jay has a love for Permaculture so he did his PDC. .
