Tubs, tubs, tubs! I keep finding bathtubs. I’m an absolute sucker for old clawfoot cast iron; heavy as a baby elephant and back breaking to move.

I somehow always find great deals on old antique tubs. Honestly, it really isn’t a surprise, I check Craigslist every 10 minutes. Just kidding, but really, I do check it often. Now, they aren’t all in perfect shape and a few need work in one way or another, but I can’t wait to get my hands dirty and fix them up. They will be perfect for so many things, just look on Pinterest.

I have found 4 tubs on Craigslist so far. I can’t help it, I keep finding tubs that are more antique or embellished than the last or are a simply a super deal. For example, I’ve always wanted a slipper tub, but those can be crazy expensive. So, when I saw a slipper tub on Craigslist (for a really low Craigslist price) I had to jump on it right away. Next I found a tiny little tub for a steal -basically free; of course, it is now mine. My bathtub collection kept growing as more slipper tub listings appeared–how could I let them go?

What will I do with all these tubs?

    1. I’m imagining an outdoor bathtub in the forest! Just have to make sure the neighbours know they need to yell out if they want to come for a visit or they might be in for a surprise. But, to have a nice hot bath in the middle of the forest, gazing at the trees, mountains and wildlife while breathing in the clean air will be serene and relaxing and I just can not wait!
    2. Vermiculture! We are also looking for plain cast iron tubs to keep on the property because we are a big fans of vermiculture aka worm bins! I will be able to insulate the “worm bin” and build a wooden skirt and cover. I’m sure I will do a vermiculture post. I actually did a ‘how to’ report for a school project on worms so I’ll see if I can dig that up. Believe it or not, I don’t like keeping my worm bins in the house due to some previous learning experiences (think hundreds of escapees on the kitchen floor). So an outside worm bin bathtub will be perfect.
    3. Aquatic Plants or Water Features! These tubs can easily be filled up with beautiful aquatic plants or used in a water feature. I can’t wait to play around with them and see how they work best.

Stay tuned and I’ll blog about how we’ve fixed up these tubs! We are thinking about surrounding one of the tubs in copper pennies, but maybe we will use the copper pennies for a shower floor or wall….hmm, we will have to wait and see!
